Birds of Florida
My two-day trip to Florida was surprisingly productive. In the middle of the 10-hr drive we stopped at St.Augustine beach for lunch. These birds were scavenging from the fishermen on a pier.
199. Great-tailed Grackle (Quiscalus mexicanus)
The female
...and the male
200. Ruddy Turnstone (Arenaria interpres)
Further closer to our destination, a flock of black vultures were circling the carcass of a raccoon.
201. Black Vulture (Coragyps atratus)
202. Red-bellied Woodpecker (Melanerpes carolinus)
This one was a frequent visitor to a bird-feed in my cousin's backyard.
One the first day in Florida we visited Jonathan Dickinson State Park. Canoeing over the Loxahatchee river we spotted these.
203. Osprey (Pandion haliaetus)
204. Green Heron (Butorides virescens)
On the second day we drove to Shark Valley in the Everglades. Amid the stars of Everglades, Alligators, lived some of these beauties.
205. Sandhill Crane (Grus canadensis)
206. Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias)
207. Dusky Moorhen (Gallinula tenebrosa)
208. Anhinga (Anhinga anhinga)
209. American Purple Gallinule (Porphyrio martinica)
210. Tricolored Heron (Egretta tricolor)
211. Laughing Gull - Juvenile (Leucophaeus atricilla)

Pudu aaru
One of the joys of living in Thanjavur is that I can count at least 3 dozen bird species from my office terrace. Here are a few shot at office and around my town.
189. Yellow-billed Babbler (Turdoides affinis)
These noisy little birds sometimes make it impossible to hear each other at work.
190. Pied Kingfisher (Ceryle rudis)
Caught this guy hovering over some last remaining puddles in the Puduaaru canal that passes through Thanjavur.
191. Ashy Woodswallow (Artamus fuscus)

Loten's sunbird
Masinagudi yet again
My haul from the annual pilgrimage to Masinagudi
184. Changeable Hawk-eagle (Nisaetus cirrhatus)
I caught this fantastic specimen on the main road in Bandipur in fading light. It's a pity that I couldn't get a better pic.
185. Common Iora (Aegithina tiphia)
186. Common Flameback (Dinopium javanense)
187. Malabar Grey Hornbill (Ocyceros griseus)

Christmas Road Trip - 2010
These are from my road trip mostly around Chikmagalur.
178. Flame-throated bulbul (Pycnonotus gularis)
179. Eurasian Sparrowhawk (Accipiter nisus): The orange iris does make me suspect that this might be a wrong ID. However, I could rule out Besra and Shikra based on the sharp horizontal stripes across the chest.
180. Indian Roller (Coracias benghalensis): Luckily, I was able to capture the brilliant patterns under its wings.
181. Orphean Warbler (Sylvia hortensis). Still doubtful. This could also be the Bar-winged Flycatcher Shrike.
182. Scarlet Minivet - Female (Pericrocotus flammeus). This was on the way to Sheegekhan in Muthodi. The male remained elusive.
183. Rufous-tailed Shrike (Lanius isabellinus)
116. Scaly-breasted Munia (Lonchura punctulata) A pair of munias gorging on the corn.
